Jonathan Capps
Nordic Studies
Jonathan Capps was raised in Knoxville, TN spending much of his your outdoors camping and hiking in the Southern Appalachian Mountains. After moving to Kentucky in 2001, Capps developed a passion for glassblowing during undergraduate school at Centre College (Danville, KY) where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 2005. For the following decade he worked as a freelance glassblower, artist, and designer, traveling extensively to learn, teach, and pursue the mastery of his craft.
In 2013 Capps moved to Ohio to attend graduate school and in 2016, earned a Master of Fine Arts degree from The Ohio State University. Two years later he was awarded a U.S. Fulbright Arts Grant to spend a year in Finland researching Finnish glass and design. As and Alumni Ambassador to the Fulbright program, Capps continues to engage in outreach and recruitment for both the International Institute of Education (IIE), and Finland’s National Fulbright Foundation.
Currently, Jonathan Capps lives with his wife and two children in Columbus, OH, working as a freelance glass artist and designer, and teaching glass in the Department of Art at The Ohio State University.
